Day 2: Chefchaouen - Volubilis - Meknes - Fez
After a peaceful night in Chefchaouen, you’ll leave the Rif Mountains behind and embark on a journey through Morocco's rich historical tapestry. Continuing onward, you’ll visit Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities, known for its impressive blend of European and Islamic architecture. Today is dedicated to discovering the wonders of Fez, home to one of the oldest and largest medieval cities in the world. A guided tour will lead you through the maze-like streets of the medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where time seems to stand still.
You’ll visit the Bou Inania Madrasa, a stunning example of Marinid architecture, with its exquisite tile work and intricate wood carvings. Explore the bustling souks, where artisans craft leather goods, metalwork, and pottery using time-honored techniques. You’ll also witness the traditional tanneries, where leather is dyed in vibrant colors using methods that have been passed down through generations.
Leaving the ancient city of Fez behind, your journey continues southward into the heart of Morocco.
